China has agreed to start "serious" talks on Iran's controversial nuclear program, the U.S. ambassador to the UN said.
"China has agreed to sit down and begin serious negotiations here in New York," Susan Rice said.
She added that the U.S. has prepared specific proposals for a new Security Council resolution that imposes further sanctions against Tehran.
In early March, the Iran Six, comprising the United States, France, Britain, Germany, China and Russia, discussed the resolution.
Russia, which along with China earlier opposed to further sanctions against the Islamic Republic, recently indicated that it might discuss sanctions if no progress is reached by diplomatic means.
