Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will meet country's Paralympic athletes and hand over state awards to champions of the Games during a ceremony in Kremlin on Friday.

The Russian Paralympic team topped the Vancouver overall standings with 38 medals and were second in the gold medal count after Germany. It performed much better in Vancouver than the Olympic team, who finished the Games with its worst Winter Olympic medal tally in history, winning just three golds, five silvers and seven bronzes to finish 11th in the overall table.

Last week, during a meeting of the presidential council for sports, Medvedev said "such results are an achievement of our Paralympic athletes, who showed great moral courage and a will to victory."

Paralympic medalists will be awarded state decorations and receive money awards. The champions will receive 100,000 euros (about $136,000) each. The silver and bronze medalists will be awarded 60,000 euros (about $81,500) and 40,000 euros (more than $54,000), respectively.
