At least 25 people, including five women, were killed after gunmen wearing Iraqi military uniform attacked a village in southern Baghdad, an Iraqi Interior Ministry source said on Saturday.
The source, who declined to be named, said a group of up to 15 gunmen in military uniforms raided houses in a village south of Baghdad in the early hours of Saturday.
The victims were reported to have been handcuffed and shot in the head.
"Men wearing uniforms and driving vehicles similar to those used by the army stormed three houses in the village of Sufiya ... and killed 25 people, including five women," the source was quoted as saying by Aljazeera news agency.
The village is located in the Sunni Muslim belt that used to be an al-Qaeda stronghold.
Sunni Muslim militants, known as Awakening movement or the Sons of Iraq, teamed up with the United States against al-Qaeda two years ago in a bid to quell the violence in Iraq.
