A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred on Wednesday off the coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter of the quake, which took place at 02:15am Moscow time (22:15 GMT Tuesday), was some 204 kilometers (127 miles) to the north-west of the city of Sibolga in the North Sumatra province.
There have been no reports on victims or damage. Specialists are analyzing the tsunami risk.
