The Russian presidential staff has sent an official request to Twitter urging the Internet site to delete an existing account opened under the name of Dmitry Medvedev, a Kremlin spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The account blog_medvedev contains posts on domestic and international issues, though it has nothing to do with President Medvedev's position since the presidential staff did not take part in creating the micro blog.
The Kremlin spokesperson confirmed that later this summer the president plans to create an official account in the Global micro blogging service [Twitter].The spokesperson gave no further details.
"So that everything works well, we need someone to handle [the blog]. We are currently working on this project," newsru.com web site quoted a Kremlin official as saying.
The Russian president, who portrays himself as a young and technologically savvy leader, has a Live Journal blog as well as an account on YouTube.
The Kremlin spokesperson said that in the nearest future Medvedev was also going to create an account in some international social network, though he did not specify whether the president would choose Facebook or a different website.
U.S. President Barack Obama was one of the first leaders of state to create his own account in Twitter and Facebook.
