Russia’s Black Sea fleet will remain in Crimea for another 25 years, with the right to prolong the term for five more years. The agreement on the continued basing of Russia’s Black Sea fleet beyond 2017 was signed following talks between Russian and Ukrainian presidents, Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych, during the Russian leader’s visit to Kharkiv.
The presidents also signed a gas agreement under which Ukraine will receive $40 billion worth of gas as resource aid over the next 10 years.
Aside from the agreements, the leaders also discussed simplification of customs and migration procedures, as well as inter-regional, political, trade and economic cooperation of the two countries.
