Sotheby’s will action diamonds that once belonged to royalty – to Grand Duchess Olga of Russia, who later became Queen of Greece, Princess Marie Bonaparte, a descendant of Napoleon, Italian monarchs and style queens.
These lots are unique and rarely sold. That is why Sotheby’s expects the action to be a success and even attract record-breaking bids.
Burmese rubies, Cashmere sapphires and Colombian emeralds will also be auctioned, but diamonds are traditionally the most expensive lots. The most valuable lot, according to experts, will be a colorless diamond of a rare size, the price of which is not given on the Sotheby’s website. The experts estimate it at no less than $7 million.
This is the biggest diamond to be auctioned so far this year. Christie’s intends to auction a similar colorless diamond in Geneva, but that one is a little smaller, at about 40 carats.
