Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday arrived in the Syrian capital for a two-day official visit and meeting with President Bashar al-Assad to discuss energy and Middle East peace issues.
This is the first visit by a Russian president to Syria since bilateral relations were established between the two countries.
The leaders are expected to discuss expanding trade and economic cooperation, humanitarian relations, Iran's nuclear program, as well as the situation in Iraq and Lebanon.
On Wednesday, Medvedev will begin his two-day visit in the Turkish capital of Ankara to discuss issues in the energy sphere. Presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said earlier that a number of documents will be signed during the visit.
