Russian, U.S. and Tajik drug police representatives discussed on Thursday ways to counter Afghan drug trafficking, the Russian Federal Drug Control Service deputy chief said.
According to the Federal Drug Control Service, Afghan opium causes the deaths of around 100,000 people around the world annually. In Russia alone, Afghan heroin kills around 30,000 young people each year.
"We have made a significant progress in countering the Afghan drug mafia," Vasily Rogozin said.
He said that it had been decided to create a working group with representatives of drug police services from Russia, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The participants will attempt to adopt a common strategy in the struggle against drug production and international drug trafficking.
