On April 22, 2010 the sixth Russian national St. George Ribbon campaign was launched. The black and orange ribbons have come to symbolize the memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and gratitude for the war veterans, who liberated the world from the Nazism.

On April 22, 2010 the sixth Russian national St. George Ribbon campaign was launched. The black and orange ribbons have come to symbolize the memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and gratitude for the war veterans, who liberated the world from the Nazism. To mark the campaign’s beginning commanders of the Russian heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky gave out the ribbons to the seamen, petty officers, midshipmen and officers.

In Vladivostok the campaign was launched on May 5. Volunteers distributed the ribbons and leaflets about the campaign. Bikers also joined in. Photo: opening of the bike season at the Korabelnaya Embankment.

Chechnya also organized many events to celebrate the Victory. For example, a Memorial Glory Complex was unveiled in Grozny on May 8. Photo: a veteran of the Great Patriotic War during Victory Day celebrations in Grozny.

Over 4.2 million people took to the streets to celebrate Victory Day in Moscow.

To mark the 65th Victory anniversary almost 10,000 St. George ribbons were distributed among the visitors of the Russian pavilion at Expo-2010 in Shanghai.

Estonia has been participating in the campaign for five years. Photo: a veteran in Tallinn arriving at the Military Cemetery, where the Bronze Soldier monument was relocated in 2007. On an initiative from Estonian drivers, Victory Taxis were shuttling through Tallinn’s streets on Victory Day.

Many politicians attended the parade, marking the 65th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism, wearing St. George ribbons, including Russian President Dmitry Medvedev…

The first St. George Ribbon campaign was launched in 2005 to mark the 60th Victory anniversary. RIA Novosti news agency and the Student Community Russian regional youth support organization masterminded and organized the campaign.
