At least one person has been killed and dozens have been injured in a 5.2-magnitude earthquake that has occurred outside the Algerian capital, the German DPA new agency said.
Witnesses were quoted as saying that the tremor destroyed many buildings in the town of Beni Yellman, some 300 kilometers (about 190 miles) to the east of Algiers. Some people were reportedly jumping in terror from their apartments when the quake hit the town on Friday.
No further details have been reported.
