A Chadian film was presented at the Cannes festival official competition program for a first time in the history.
Un homme qui crie (A Screaming Man) by Chadian filmmaker Mahamat-Saleh Haroun was presented in Cannes this week end.
This is a fourth film of Chadian film director. This is a story of father and son, where love, guilt and fear checkered lives of the film characters and place against violence that redeemed life in the African country where rebels undermined stability, killing hundreds in recent years.
"It's a kind of history handed down from father to son ... and from generation to generation. That's why I attach such importance to the father-son relationship," Haroun said.
The 49-year-old filmmaker studied cinema and journalism in France and lived there since 1982.
Haroun won the Best Cinematography Award at FESPACO (Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou) also in Cannes, in 2002 for his feature film Abouna and later, in 2006, he took the Grand Special Jury Prize at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival for his third film, Daratt, saison seche (Daratt, dry season).
A Screaming Man will compete with 18 other movies from across the world for the best film prize
The Cannes Film Festival will be held until May 23.
