The EU Council of Ministers has ruled to extend the presence of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afganistan) for another three-year term, a source in the council told RIA Novosti.
The mandate of the mission was extended beyond May 31, 2010, until May 31, 2013 on Tuesday, the source said.
Established in 2007, EUPOL operates in the Afghan capital Kabul and 19 other provinces of the republic. Its main goals are to train Afghan police staff and assist in conducting police reform at central, regional and provincial level.
