Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov will go on a two-day official visit to India on Monday, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said.
This is the first official visit of Berdymukhamedov to India that makes it important in the history of Turkmen-Indian relations, the ministry said.
Besides meetings with the Indian president and prime minister, the Turkmen leader is also scheduled to meet with other politicians as well as business representatives.
The ministry said the main focus of the talks between the presidents of two countries will be on the development of trade and economic cooperation, primarily in the fuel and energy sector.
India is interested in the construction of the Trans-Afghan gas pipeline that will run from Turkmenistan via Afghanistan, Pakistan and eventually end up in India to transport gas from the Caspian Sea.
Trade between India and Turkmenistan increased by 20% in 2009 against the previous year.
