Ukraine's WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko continues to insist on fighting with David Haye of Britain just like his younger brother Wladimir, saying he would knock the Brit out in four rounds, the BoxingScene.com website said on Tuesday.
'Dr. Ironfist' Klitschko (39-2, 37 KOs), who announced in February his plans to abandon professional boxing this year, repeatedly said he hopes to fight Haye before his retirement.
"I want to fight David Haye very badly. Wladimir wants to fight against him also. I want to fight David Haye because he has the WBA world title. But Wladimir wants to fight David Haye because it's personal. And Wladimir told me that the title is not of interest to him," the website quoted Vitali as saying.
WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KOs) surprised boxing fans by repeatedly insulting the Klitschko brothers over the last three years. Last year, Haye scheduled a bout against Wladimir, aged 34, and later against Vitali, aged 38, but for various reasons withdrew from both fights.
"David Haye tries to use every excuse why he doesn't want to fight. Twice, he has jumped away from opportunities to face the Klitschkos," Vitali said.
"He had a fight lined up against Wladimir, and just two weeks before the fight he explained about some injury that nobody believes in his injuries. Before my fight, we were ready to sign the contract to fight Haye, and he jumped also and tried to come up with an excuse. Nobody believed his excuses. David Haye understands that this fight against either of the Klitschko brothers would be the end of his career."
Vitali added that he would be "generous" with Haye and knock him out in fourth round at the most, while his brother Wladimir wants to take time before knocking the Brit out in the final 12th round.
"I promise David Haye that the fight with me will be much shorter than the one would be with my brother, because Wladimir will be beating him badly over 12 rounds and knock him out. I will give a proposal to David Haye. A much easier proposal. I will knock him out in two, three, maximum, four rounds," Vitali said.
At a news conference with Wladimir (53-3, 47 KOs) in April last year, Haye, a 29-year-old Londoner, wore a t-shirt depicting himself holding aloft the two decapitated heads of the brothers.
Haye's insults of the Klitschko brothers first erupted in December 2008, when "Hayemaker" met with Vitali at a restaurant and presented him with a British edition of Men's Health magazine, displaying a photo of Haye posing with the decapitated head of Wladimir. A scuffle followed afterwards in the restaurant.
