Putin got acquainted with production of the Izhmash holding during his visit to the city of Izhevsk in the Western Urals.

The head of the government took a PPSh-41 - Shpagin machine pistol, a submachine gun used during World War II.

Izhmash’s CEO showed Putin the workshops were weapons have been produced since the 1970s.

Putin was welcomed by Mikhail Kalashnikov - the designer of the eponymous automatic rifle. “This is the big hit of our Russian weaponry,” he told the premier, adding that the competition was very tough even back when the gun was created.

Izmash’s CEO showed Putin a new Kalashnikov model, the AK-74M 200.

The most up-to-date rifles, guns and thermal sighting systems for small arms were demonstrated to the prime minister.
