The Russian Foreign Ministry has welcomed commitments made to U.S. Russia relations in the updated U.S. National Security Strategy and called for further developments in ties between the two countries.
The United States published on Thursday an updated version of its 2006 National Security Strategy, outlining the basic principles of security in the country.
"We welcome the document's declared commitment to the principles of multilateral cooperation, multi-vector diplomacy, a democratic and equitable world order, sustainable and economic development and combating threats to international security," the ministry said.
The ministry also welcomed Washington's commitment to strong relations with Moscow, especially in the areas of non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, fighting terrorism and economic cooperation.
"We believe Barack Obama's declared policy of resetting relations is not opportunistic, but long-term in nature. It is in the interests of our countries not to look to the past but to move forward towards a qualitative transformation of our relations," the ministry said.
