Hungary has unveiled its culture office in Russia's Volga republic of Udmurtia, which shares the same Finno-Ugric language group.

The office was opened with the assistance of the cultural, scientific and information center of the Hungarian Republic in Moscow.

Several cultural events, including lectures devoted to Hungary, are planned at the Hungarian office in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic, on June 1-2.

The ambassadors of Hungary, Finland and Estonia are to attend the opening ceremony.

"It has become a tradition for the heads of diplomatic missions of the three countries to visit Russian regions where peoples of Finno-Ugric origin live," a spokesman for the Republic of Udmurt government said.

The diplomats are to attend a Hungarian music concert and visit a local ethinic theater and a gymnasium as well as the remote village of Karamas-Pelga, where residents preserve the traditions of their ancestors.
