Russia and China are set to hold a joint anti-drug operation codenamed "Snow clearance" in the second half of the year, the Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday.

The drug control chief of Russia's eastern Primorsky Territory, where the operation will take place, said Russia and China were ready to expand anti-drug efforts and boost the fight against cross-border crimes.

Russia's drug control chief, Viktor Ivanov, said during his visit to Beijing earlier in May that China accounts for about 10% of the total volume of drugs, mainly amphetamines, smuggled into Russia.

China and Russia signed a joint anti-drugs agreement in 2004.
