Two separate terrorist attacks occurred in Russia's North Caucasus republics of Dagestan and Ingushetia on Friday, claiming at least one life and injuring another eight, regional police spokesmen said.
An identified person opened fire on a crowd in front of a mosque on outskirts of the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, killing at least one and injuring another individual, a representative of the local police said.
"The mosque's Imam was killed," the spokesman said.
The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. Moscow time (09:00 GMT) near the mosque in the village of Torki.
An investigation is ongoing. The injured person has been hospitalized.
The same day a blast occurred in the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia injuring eight people.
The explosion was in a local shop in the suburb of the Ingush village of Malgobek at 2:55 p.m. Moscow time (10:55 GMT).
Rescuers have pulled the injured from the debris.
Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes are common in Russia's volatile southern republics, where Russia has held two brutal wars against separatists in the region of Chechnya, which borders Dagestan, although the Kremlin has officially ended its military campaign against separatists and terrorists there.
