One person was killed and one injured in a fire in a 12-story residential building in eastern Moscow on Sunday, police said.
"The fire broke out on the sixth floor. It engulfed an area of 40 square meters," a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said two people were evacuated from neighboring apartments.
According to official statistics, some 14,000 people died and about 13,200 were injured in 187,500 fires in Russia in 2009.
