Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that fresh UN sanctions against Tehran have no value.
"Today they adopted a resolution against us. We regard this resolution like a used tissue that should be thrown into the waste bin," Ahmadinejad said during a visit to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
He added that Iran had grown used to sanctions.
"Sanctions are being thrown at us from all sides, but [they are] like a fly, we have patience and we will hold out," he said.
The United Nations Security Council approved a new round of sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program earlier on Wednesday.
Twelve members of the council voted for the sanctions, including Russia and China, with Turkey and Brazil voting against them. Lebanon abstained.
The new sanctions include tougher financial controls and an expanded arms embargo.
