The images were taken by the HiRISE camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) between April 5 and May 6, 2010. A large number of craters can be seen in one of the pictures, which was taken in the middle latitudes of the planet.
Gullies on the side of an unnamed crater in the Noachis Terra region can be seen in this image. Scientist believe the gullies were formed from the freezing of drained water.
