Entrepreneur and Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov’s wife, Yelena Baturina, has become one of the world’s three richest business women, according to “Forbes.”
Baturina’s wealth is assessed at 2.9 billion dollars. Chinese Wu Yajun is the richest woman in the billionaires’ club with 3.9 billion dollars earned in real estate. Rosalia Mera, who co-founded the Zara empire and earned 3.5 billion dollars, is ranked second.
The Moscow mayor’s wife upstaged such famous businesswomen as TV host Oprah Winfrey, whose net worth is estimated at 2.4 billion dollars; Doris Fisher, the owner of The Gap, Inc. (with 3,000 retail outlets) along with its Old Navy and Banana Republic brands; Giuliana Benetton, who owns the Benetton brand with 2.1 billion dollars; and the richest writer JK Rowling who earned 1 billion dollars for the Harry Potter books and movies. Baturina started her career as a plant worker; later she founded the Inteco and Patriot companies.
The Moscow mayor’s wife is ranked third on a short list with only 14 names of women who themselves earned over 1 billion dollars. “Forbes” list of billionaires totals 1,011 people.
