At least six militants and four law enforcement officers were killed during a police operation in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Wednesday, a federal security service official said.
Another four officers were injured during the operation, which took place in the village of Stary Kostek in Dagestan's Khasavyurt region.
Earlier on Wednesday, unidentified assailants killed one police officer and injured another in an attack in the Dagestani city of Derbent.
Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes are common in Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus republics, especially Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.
Russia has been fighting militants in the North Caucasus since the mid 1990s, including two separatist wars in Chechnya.
