Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is gaining popularity in Europe, according to a recent survey by the Washington-based Pew Research Center.

According to the poll, 50% of Germans trust the Russian president and Poles have more than doubled their trust in him to 36% in comparison with last year's survey.

Medvedev, who is traveling to the United States next week on an official visit, is trusted by 38% of Americans.

Other countries with high trust in the Russian leader are India (44%), China (43%), and Kenya (45%), according to Pew Research Center.

Medvedev has the lowest trust standings in Pakistan (2%), Jordan (6%), and Turkey (8%).

According to the survey, 74% of Russians trust their leader. In comparison, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has a trust rating of 47% at home and German Chancellor Angela Merkel enjoys 72% trust in Germany.

U.S. President Barack Obama is trusted by 90% of the Germans, 87% of the French, 84% of the Brits, and 69% of the Spaniards. At home, Obama is trusted by 65% of Americans. Obama is trusted by only 41% of Russians, according to the survey.

The survey was held in April-May 2010 in 22 countries, with some 25,000 people participating.
