Excise taxes on gasoline, tobacco and alcohol will be raised, the Russian finance minister said on Friday.
"These three types of excise taxes will be raised, this is inevitable," Alexei Kudrin said at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
He said the Russian Tax Code already stipulates the doubling of excise taxes on tobacco. The Finance Ministry has proposed a significant increase in excise taxes, "not doubling, but tripling tobacco excise taxes," Kudrin said.
The finance minister said Russia would also considerably raise excise taxes on alcohol.
As for gasoline, the Finance Ministry is now investigating a proposal from the Transport Ministry, which involves the annulment of the transport tax due to the rise in excise taxes on gasoline.
