At dawn, the traditional symbol of the holiday – a ship with scarlet sails - sailed along the Neva River.

The main present of the holiday was a performance by Canada’s world-famous Cirque du Soleil.

The culmination of the performance was a balancing act by an acrobat on a giant chandelier and a balloon flight.

The music and lightshow on the Neva River began at 1:40 a.m., with Valery Gergiev conducting an orchestra playing the music of Eduard Artemyav.

The show lasted for around 40 minutes.

At around 2 a.m. a fairytale ship symbolizing an accomplished wish, the Sekret ship from the novel by Alexander Grin, arrived from Lake Ladoga. This year, the Standard sailing ship for the first time failed to be the main hero of the holiday. It turned out that only six ships in the world could play its role and almost a square kilometer of tissue was used on the scarlet sails of the Swedish brig Three Crowns.
