Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday Russia and the United States should increase mutual investment.
"I am convinced the potential of Russian-American relations is high; at the same time, due to the crisis and differences that existed between our states some time ago, this potential has been developing reluctantly," the Russian president said at a meeting with businessmen.
"The total volume of investment, in my opinion, does not match the current demands," he said.
"There can be no one-way traffic here: the economy is global. We should create reasonable rules of play and help each other in overcoming various obstacles," Medvedev said.
U.S. President Barack Obama lamented that bilateral trade and economic relations are not developed well enough, and added that the United States plans to boost ties with Russia in aviation, the aerospace and automotive spheres.
Obama thanked Medvedev for his efforts to develop bilateral ties and said Russia's development of the hi-tech sphere is in line with U.S. interests.
Medvedev kicked off his trip to the United States by a visit to the Silicon Valley.
He said Russia's high-tech hub in the Moscow suburb of Skolkovo, which has been dubbed by the media as Russia's Silicon Valley, would not be a clone to the U.S. hub but added that "it is advisable to adopt" some of the Valley's experience and certain principles of its operations.
Medvedev has made developing hi-tech sectors and encouraging research the focal point of his economic agenda.
