Svetlana Medvedev has made a tour of places connected to the Russian immigrant community in San Francisco. Russia’s first lady is currently accompanying President Dmitry Medvedev on an official visit to the United States.
On Thursday, Svetlana Medvedev visited the Russian Cultural Center, a Russian kindergarten and the Museum of Russian Culture, where she got a glimpse into the history of Russian immigration to San Francisco.
The museum’s staff offered her a gift, a model of the historical Fort Ross bell, made for the first Russian Orthodox church on American soil. The first lady presented them with a landscape showing the old Russian town of Veliki Ustyug, CDs by the popular folk singer Lyudmila Zykina, and a Joseph Brodsky photo album.
When the first lady came to the kindergarten, she was greeted by the children with Russian songs.
