Heads of the G8 countries opened a summit in the Canadian town of Huntsville with a working lunch, a spokesman for the Canadian prime minister said on Friday.
During the lunch the politicians will discuss major global problems and the progress made towards the Millennium Development Goals on the eradication of poverty and starvation, and improving the quality of life on the planet.
After the lunch, the G8 leaders will meet with the leaders of Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Malawi, Senegal, Ethiopia and South Africa to discuss the provision of aid to developing countries.
