The main result achieved during the first day of the G8 summit in Canada is that the sides clarified their positions, an aide to the Russian president said on Saturday.
The two-day G8 summit began in Huntsville on Friday. It will be followed on Saturday by a G20 summit in Toronto, which will finish on June 27.
"The main result of the first several sessions of the G8 summit is that the leaders coordinated their positions on development issues and economic problems of the G8 states which remain a matter of concern for everyone," Arkady Dvorkovich said.
"We gained an insight into certain positions and it will be easier for us to further coordinate our actions," he said.
Increasing state debt and budget deficits were among the first issues on the agenda of the summit's first day. Participants also addressed fiscal stimulus policies, or state capital infusions into the financial sector to support economic growth.
"President [Dmitry] Medvedev clearly stated the necessity of responsible budget policy and called on his partners to be an example to other states by announcing plans to cut budget deficit," Dvorkovich said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier said that all participants "demonstrated mutual understanding on the problems of global economy."
"I have made it clear that we need sustainable growth, and that growth and clever austerity measures don't have to be contradictions," she added.
