The Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas ruling Gaza insists on the complete lifting of the Israeli blockade on the enclave saying easing the grip is not enough, Hamas spokesman Ismail Radwan said.

Israel unveiled on Monday the list of goods which will be completely or partly forbidden to enter Gaza and promised to allow all other items which are not on the list into the region with no other approval needed.

"We reject this decision which deludes the public opinion that the blockade of Gaza will be lifted... We demand the blockade is lifted completely and without any conditions," Radwan said.

Among the banned goods are weapons, ammunition, goods and technologies of "dual-use" as well as building materials which are allowed in exclusively for projects under international supervision.

The new guidelines for Gaza, widening the amount of goods allowed, are the result of international pressure on Israel following the storm of the six-ship Freedom Flotilla on May 31 in international waters off the coast of the Gaza Strip.

The vessels were carrying about 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid and up to 700 human rights activists to the Palestinian enclave. At least nine activists, four of them Turks, were killed when Israeli armed forces dropped on board from helicopters and opened fire.

The Jerusalem Post quoted a White House spokesman as saying that Israel's announcement on Monday was "an important step."

"We believe the list of restricted goods for Gaza announced today will make a significant improvement in the lives of people in Gaza, while keeping weapons out of the hands of Hamas," said Tommy Vietor.
