Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has signed a resolution on paying compensation to the families of children who drowned while on vacation at a summer camp in southern Russia, the Mayor's Office press department said on Sunday.
Six children and one adult drowned during a boat trip to an island in the Krasnodar Territory's Sea of Azov on Wednesday. During the trip, the children were allowed to swim in the sea in an area with an undeveloped shoreline and no rescue facilities.
Investigators said three employees of the Azov holiday camp were drinking while children in their care drowned.
The Moscow mayor also instructed the city administration's legal department to launch legal proceedings against the Azov holiday camp to compensate the parents of drowned children for resulting damages and expenditures, the press office said.
