A round up of what happened in the past 24 hours.

World

* Germany won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa playoff game for the third place against Uruguay 3:2 scoring the wining goal with only eight minutes of the match remaining.

* U.S. President Barack Obama held a telephone conversation with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas discussing Palestinian-Israeli settlement among other issues, the White House said in a statement.

* The UN Security Council condemned the sinking of a South Korean corvette Cheonan and stressed the need to prevent similar attacks in the region.

* Two policemen were wounded in a blast in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the local Interior Ministry said.

* The recently adopted Ukrainian law on local elections strongly limits the constitutional rights of citizens, that is why it will be challenged in court, head of the Front for Change opposition party Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.

* Hezbollah has a list of military targets inside Israel which will be hit in case of a new war, Sheik Nabil Kaouk, Hezbollah commander in South Lebanon said.

* A freight train loaded with grain has been derailed after an explosive device went off at a railroad in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the local Interior Ministry said.

* Russia's Proton-M carrier rocket launched on Saturday from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan has delivered a U.S. EchoStar 15 telecommunications satellite into the designated orbit, Russian space agency Roscosmos said.

* Human rights activists working in the Chechen Republic are not at risk and nothing threatens their life, the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said.
