Two militants were eliminated during special operations in Chechnya on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry said.
"During the operation in the woods in Vedensky District, servicemen and police discovered two members of a militant group. The police surrounded the gunmen and demanded their surrender. In response to their demands, the gunmen opened fire at police," the spokesman said.
The two gunmen were killed and police are determining their identities. Weapons and ammunition were discovered at the scene.
Police are continuing to search the area for other possible group members.
