The Russian embassy in Malta is following the situation around a Russian teenager accused by the Mediterranean country of attempted murder, the embassy said Wednesday.
The Times of Malta newspaper on Tuesday reported that a Maltese court has charged a 16-year-old Russian, who had arrived in the country to study English, with attempting to murder two local teenagers, who were both stabbed with a penknife.
The Russian has not admitted his guilt.
"We cannot provide any additional information except for what is in the newspapers because according to Maltese laws, requests connected to investigations regarding minors may not be made public," an embassy representative said.
"[But] we can confirm the fact," he said. "We are keeping our finger on the pulse [of the situation] and consular department officials are in constant contact with the police and judicial bodies."
