Unidentified persons have attacked the Baksanskaya hydroelectric power plant run by RusHydro in Kabardino-Balkaria.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday, July 21. The investigation’s preliminary conclusion is that it was a terrorist attack. RusHydro says only the machine hall has been damaged, with hydro-engineering facilities left intact. According to law enforcement agencies, two guards have been killed and two plant staff injured.
As reported by the information center of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, the armed attack on the plant was undertaken by a group numbering up to four members.
“By this time, the likely suspects have been identified,” (says the report)
All hydro-engineering facilities in southern Russia have taken measures to tighten security.
