Wildfires sparked by a prolonged drought and weeks of abnormally high temperatures, are raging in 22 Russian regions. A state of emergency has been declared in seven regions, including the Moscow region.
South African President Jacob Zuma paid an official visit to Russia on August 5. The Russian and South African presidents discussed bilateral ties and signed several agreements on nuclear and space cooperation. Zuma invited Dmitry Medvedev to South Africa in 2012.
