Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called a meeting to review the status of the Raspadskaya mine. The meeting was prompted by reports that not all of the government’s promises to support the victims’ relatives were being kept. Vladimir Putin spoke with the miners’ widows via videoconference with Novokuznetsk.
"Why did I ask you to take part in this meeting? Word has reached me that some of the victims' families think that not all the promises made to them are being kept", Vladimir Putin said.
The meeting on the Raspadskaya mine accident was attended by regional authorities, mine owners and the deceased miner’s widows. The women said that in general they were satisfied with governmental support, but added that some issues had yet to be resolved.
