Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on regional heads to provide land lots along with new houses for the victims of Russia's recent spate of wildfires, the Kremlin's press service said on Monday.
A scorching heat wave has gripped much of European Russia since mid-June, which, coupled with the worst drought since the 1970s, has made the countryside particularly susceptible to wildfires.
Areas affected by wildfires in Russia have been reduced by 8,000 hectares to 46,000 hectares over the past 24 hours.
