Russia's Mission Control has readjusted the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS) by raising it by 2.2 kilometers (1.4 miles), a Mission Control spokesman said.
The operation to correct the orbit was carried out with the help of thrusters of the Progress M-06M cargo ship, which is currently docked with the station's Zvezda module.
The readjustment is necessary to ensure the best conditions for the docking of Russia's next Progress manned spacecraft and return of a Soyuz ship.
Corrections to the space station's orbit are conducted before launches of Russian cargo ships and U.S. shuttles to compensate for the Earth's gravity and ensure successful dockings.
