Smoke from a burning landfill site in the northeast of the Moscow Region has reached the Russian capital, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
He said explosions can be heard from the site and that "the stench is unbearable although the wind is not strong."
Seven fire engines are combating the fire, which has covered an area of 15 hectares.
A firefighter said the landfill site had been smoldering for several days already.
"Today over 20 fire engines from the towns of Schyolkovo, Ivanteyevka and Korolyov took part in extinguishing the smoldering waste," he said.
