A militant leader was killed in a special operation in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, a source in the republic's interior ministry said on Saturday.
Rustam Munkiyev, born in 1983, headed one of the local militant groups since its previous leader was killed in April 2008.
"A special operation in the village of Bammatyurt in the Khasavyurt district is now completed... He [Munkiyev] is suspected of attempted murders of law enforcers and other terrorism-related crimes," the source said.
During the special operation, a bomb went off in the house, and a fire began. It was quickly put out. Apart from Munkyev, no casualties were reported, as the militant was the only person in the house.
"He let his wife leave the house during negotiations [with police]," the source added.
An assault rifle and grenades were found when police entered the building.
