MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Iran has test fired a surface-to-surface missile, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said on Friday, the ISNA news agency reported.
Vahidi gave no indication as to the Qiam missile’s precise range or when it was launched, saying only that it was was test fired in a desert.
He said the liquid-propellant Qiam was designed and built in Iran.
“The missile has new technical aspects and has a unique tactical capacity,” he said.
“Since the surface-to-surface missile has no wings, it has lots of tactical power, which also reduces the chances of it being intercepted.”
The missile is capable of “hitting a target with high precision," Vahidi said.
