Camels and buffalo have settled into Nizhny Novgorod region. The animals were brought to these remote parts of Russia by the Nizhny Novgorod based entrepreneur Alexander Mavrin. The businessman created this special enclosure-free menagerie so that visitors are able to feed and pet the animals. The wildlife enthusiast has already installed five camels and six buffalo as well as eight hundred ducks and geese in his zoo.
The zoo covers more than 100 hectares (250 acres). Nearby residents say they aren’t afraid of the animals and even swim in the same water reservoir as their four-legged and feathered neighbors. The animals, in turn, have become so accustomed to people from the village, that they are happy being fed, photographed and in some cases even ridden by them.
The zoo and all activities are free of charge. Mavrin says he sees the zoo as a hobby that brings him a great deal of joy, and one that he is keen to share with all the residents of the area.
In only a short period of time the village zoo has become so popular that people from all over the region come to pay a visit.
