Iran is withdrawing its assets from Europe as a precaution against a possible EU decision to freeze them, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran said.
"Assets of Iranian banks have been withdrawn from European banks," Mahmoud Bahmani was quoted by Press TV as saying.
He said the Central Bank had predicted such a scenario six months before and "took the necessary countermeasures."
Last week Bahmani said Iran had doubled its foreign exchange reserves.
Western powers suspect Iran of seeking to build nuclear weapons under the guise of its nuclear program, which Tehran says is aimed at the peaceful generation of civilian energy.
On June 9 the UN Security Council passed a resolution imposing a fourth set of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
