One Georgian army officer was killed on Sunday and another injured during an ISAF operation in Afghanistan, Georgia's Defense Ministry said.
"During the operation in Afghanistan, Lieutenant Mukhran Shukvani was killed and Corporal Alik Gitolendia suffered severe injuries. As a result of his injuries, the corporal lost both his legs," the ministry press service said.
It said that the facts of the incident were still under investigation so the details could not yet be disclosed.
According to NATO's International Security Assistance Force, there are approximately 925 Georgian service personnel in Afghanistan. Most serve under U.S. command in the dangerous Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan.
