On Monday, President Dmitry Medvedev dug potatoes in Russia’s Voronezh Region. Medvedev visited a farm in the village of Trudovoe, to take a look at its production and in the fields.
On Monday, President Dmitry Medvedev dug potatoes in Russia’s Voronezh Region. Medvedev visited a farm in the village of Trudovoe, to take a look at its production and in the fields.
An unirrigated field was shown to Medvedev. The president dug three potato plants and only one of them had very small tubers.
During the trip Medvedev was accompanied by the Voronezh Region Governor, Aleksey Gordeev, and Agriculture Minister, Elena Skrynnik. They watched the harvest being gathered.
The farm’s director, Igor Alimenko, showed vegetables grown using the irrigation system and ones grown without it. He said the irrigation allows them to grow 30 metric tons of potatoes annually while unirrigated fields yield only 8 tons of production.
Medvedev said “this year has been very hard” for agriculture.
