The Russian authorities did not dramatize the losses suffered by energy giant Gazprom during the financial crisis, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Monday.
"What you said about Gazprom's losses during the crisis and tough talks with its partners is true. Yes, they took place," Putin said at a meeting with members of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
"We do not meddle in the operational administration of Gazprom," he said.
Putin said that the state holds 51% in Gazprom, a controlling stake, but added that a considerable part belongs to foreign shareholders.
"And the Gazprom management is entitled to make operational decisions," he said.
